About Jeff Tarr

Artist Jeff Tarr was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1957 and raised in Winchester, Kentucky. His love of painting and expressive style first became apparent at the age of four when he freely embellished the images of his paint-by-number set.

Always known as the “artistic one” throughout grade school, Jeff went on to study fine art at the University of Kentucky and soon transferred to the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver where he received an Associate’s Degree in Commercial Art.

Upon graduating, Jeff worked as a designer for Mountain Bell and then returned Kentucky where he continued his study of graphic design and photography two more years at the University of Louisville. In 1986, Jeff moved to Manatee County, Florida, working as a head waiter while studying print making at the State College of Florida (then, Manatee Community College).

While at SCF, Jeff moved to Anna Maria Island, where he was inspired to begin painting large format oils on canvas and developed his highly colorful, expressive and contemporary-realist style.

Jeff’s original paintings and commissions are popular among local West Coast Florida collectors. Giclee prints of his recent Fish School series can be viewed at Equinox Gallery in Towles Court and the ArtSource Studio in Sarasota. His work is also on display at both eat here Anna Maria and eat here Sarasota.
